VienneVienne is a department in the north-east of the region of Poitou-Charente, named after the river which runs down the centre. Vienne has six Neighbors : Indre et Loire, Indre, Haute Vienne, Charente, Deux-Sèvres and Maine et Loire.

Vienne is a largely agricultural department, predominantly grains and sunflowers, although goat’s cheese is also a major product. The countryside has many picturesque villages and chateaus.  The department’s main town, Poitiers, is in the centre of the department. Near-by is “futuroscope” a popular multimedia theme park.
