Deux SèvresDeux-Sèvres is a departement in the north-west of the Poitou-Charente region. The department shares borders with the other three departments of the region: Vienne (east), Charente and Charente-Maritime (south). The north and west of Deux-Sèvres borders Vendée and Maine et Loire. The name comes from two (deux) rivers: the Sèvre Nantaise and the Sèvre Niortaise.

About three quarters of the department is agricultural. Vin du Haut-Poitou is a wine from the northern vineyards of the department. Descending south through the department vineyards are replaced by grain crops, vegetables, cattle and goats.

The south-west of the department contains the Marais Poitevin a large area of unspoilt marshland best explored by its network of canals.
