Côtes-d'Armor is a department in the north of the region of Brittany. It borders the departments of Finistère, Morbihan, and Ille-et-Vilaine, with the English Channel along the north coast. Previously known as the "Côtes-du-Nord" the department was renamed “Côtes d’Armor” in 1990. Armor is Breton for “the sea”.
The northern coastline of Côtes d’Armor stretches over 350 kms, including the largest coastal bird sanctuary in France. With titles such as the “Pink Granite Coast” and the “Emerald Coast” it is easy to understand why the area is favoured by artisits and poets.
Inland the Cotes d’Armor is dominated by countryside and woodland; legends and standing stones (menhirs).
