BrittanyBrittany is a large region in north-west France, surrounded on three sides by coastline, with rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, pretty coves, fishing villages and busy ports. With its ferry terminals at Roscoff, St Malo and in nearby Normandy, it has long been popular with British holiday-makers and second-home owners. It's also a popular holiday destination for the French, who come here to visit the attractive seaside towns such as Dinard, Vannes and Dinan, and of course the white sandy beaches and pretty coves where swimming, sailing, windsurfing and scuba-diving are enjoyed.

While Brittany’s coastline is well populated and a great draw for tourists, the inland areas are still largely unknown and undiscovered making them an ideal location for those looking for property for sale in Brittany. Popular towns and villages in Brittany include Morbihan, Cote d'Armor and Ille-et-Vilaine. With its mediaeval villages, enchanted forests, pretty rivers and standing stone circles, this area is known for its legends and traditional Breton customs which are still very much alive. Some Bretons still speak the Breton language, and traditional costume is still worn on special occasions.

The Gulf Stream ensures the climate is generally mild in Brittany, but its proximity to the Atlantic means it can be very wet and windy here. The climate makes this region perfect for growing artichokes and other agricultural crops, and Brittany accounts for around 10 per cent of France’s fishing. There is also a good deal of industrial activity here, but tourism is, of course, one of region’s major sources of income.
